Paula O’Leary – APC Faculty
Paula O’Leary is a Senior Lecturer in Medicine and Consultant Physician / Immunologist at Cork University Hospital. She graduated in Medicine from UCC Medical School 1987 and completed General Professional Training in Medicine at Cork University Hospital. Clinical and Laboratory Specialist Training in Immunology was undertaken in Dublin, Oxford and Birmingham (1991 – 1999). Paula has held Lecturer and subsequently Senior Lecturer posts in the UCC Department of Medicine since 2000. She has significant involvement in Undergraduate Medical Education in UCC, and currently chairs the curriculum committee of the UCC Medical School. She practices as a clinician in Clinical Immunology and Medicine. Paula has a lifelong interest in playing and listening to music. She commenced violin playing in school at the age of 4 under the umbrella of the first Europe-based programme in teaching instrumental playing using the Suzuki method (listen and play). Her music studies continued at the Cork School of Music. Membership of local and national orchestras and small ensemble groups followed through teens and young adulthood until the practicalities of developing a medical career took over. She has recently returned to regular orchestral playing with the City of Cork Symphony Orchestra and is enjoying the experience even more second time round!
