David graduated witha B.Sc. in Biotechnology from DCU and a PhD in Microbiology from NUI, Maynooth. After spending nearly 5 years as a post-doctoral fellow in the Institute de Genetique et Microbiologie in Paris, David briefly returned to Maynooth before taking up a faculty position at the University of Bath in the UK.

David is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Microbiology at UCC and a PI in the APC cores Infectious Disease core and Genomics and Metagenomics core. His research interests lie in understanding the molecular mechanisms controlling bacteria-host interactions, including commensal E. coli.
