New Research Projects Funded
Dr Paul Cotter, APC Funded Investigator based at Teagasc, has been awarded €603,909 by the Irish Government Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) for a research project “Generation of Functional Foods to promote the growth of newly identified health associated microbes in the gut”. Also awarded was funding of €421,200 to Prof Aidan Coffey, APC Faculty member at Cork Institute of Technology, for his project on ”Isolation, characterisation and exploitation of natural anti-yeast agents and their application as consumer-friendly preservatives in food and beverages”. The latest announcement means that APC Microbiome Institute scientists have been awarded funding for 8 out of 12 microbiome-related projects funded by DAFM over the last 3 years; total funding for these projects has been more than €8.9m.
