Cork Science Festival
APC is delighted to be a partner once again for Cork Science Festival which runs during Science Week from Nov 8-15th.
We are hosting a PUBLIC WEBINAR “Can we shape our microbiomes through food and viruses?” on Wednesday 11th November at 4pm GMT. ALL ARE WELCOME
To attend please go to: https://bit.ly/374bBIw
When you feed yourself, you are nourishing your microbes, in doing so you open a world of biochemical possibilities that can maintain your energy, your behaviour and your health.
Dr Susan Joyce, in her talk “You are what your microbes eat!” will discuss some of the “microbial soup” of possibilities with you and the work we have been doing at APC Microbiome Ireland in deciphering how these microbial influences can be harnessed for health.
Prof Colin Hill will talk about bacteriophages, which are viruses that kill bacteria. Bacteriophage are the most numerous microbes on earth and most bacteria die as result of bacteriophage attack. Prof Hill will discuss how we can potentially use these extraordinarily beautiful microbes to shape our microbiomes, and to improve human health.
The human microbiome is one of the most exciting areas of microbiology. It tantalizes us with the promise of novel therapeutic molecules, yet very few microbiome-based therapies have made it to the clinic or to the pharmacy and we still cannot really define a healthy microbiome. Do join us to learn more about how you can have the microbiome you deserve.
Dr Orla O’Sullivan will facilitate a Q&A to address all your questions.
Check out the full programme to be announced shortly for other virtual activities planned for citizens of all ages!
